History of Collaborations with British Universities

How British Universities started accepting students from our foundation courses

In 1988, when Foundation College established the first foundation programme in Greece, no Greek students were being accepted in the UK unless they had GCE A-levels. It was therefore important for the College to establish operational agreements with UK universities to ensure that its students had a guaranteed progression route onto bachelor degree programmes in the UK. Between 1988 and 1995 Foundation College reached agreements with fourteen Uk universities that facilitated the progression of Greek student who successfully completed the foundation programme at Foundation College. By the year 2000 almost all British universities (with the exception of a few top names) were routinely accepting students from Foundation College without the need of of signed progression agreements. We clearly preferred this because it gave our students more choice. They were no longer bound to those universities with which we had signed agreements. This opened many new opportunities to our students as popular universities such as Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Cardiff, Edinburgh and many more were readily accessible through our foundation courses. This situation has essentially existed ever since and has obviated the need for us to maintain our signed agreements. To be more precise, our agreements were never annuled but they gradually became irrelevant. These days our students complete a UCAS form with as much freedom of choice as they would have had if they were doing GCE A-levels at an English school. We are very proud of this as it provides strong evidence of the quality of our programme and its broad acceptability.

For the sake of historical correctness we quote here the UK universities with which Foundation College established signed progression agreements for our students along with the names of the university officers that were responsibe for supervising these links. Although some of these institutions are only sporadically chosen by our students these days - only about 20% of Foundation College students go to "collaborating" institutions - we remain honoured for their trust and wish to give them a special mention.
